Dating in New York City is like a giant casting call. This city is full of aspiring stars, looking for their supporting men or women. You have to be pretty passionate about something in your life- from making it on Broadway to becoming a Wall Street investor- in order to leave home, move to this city, and survive under pretty crazy conditions. With so much attention focused on one dream, finding someone to share it can often become secondary, especially when all of your prospects come attached to their own dreams and goals.

Most successful relationships that I’ve witnessed are made up of a dreamer and a supporter. Each person doesn’t always play just one role, but to make the relationship work you have to have someone who believes in your dreams, someone to share your successes with, and someone to get you through the bad times. Couples can take turns playing either role, but in a city that requires you to give a hundred percent all the time, it can be tough to find anyone willing to put you first.
Now this doesn’t mean we’ve given up hope. Walk into any bar, restaurant, or coffee shop and you’ll find rooms crowded full of people who have managed to make it work, or are hopeful that the person they’re with may be the one. Starting Monday, October 9th, this site will be devoted to stories of what it’s like out there, from the great first dates to the dirty details of dry spells, without ever forgetting that there is more to life. After all, that’s what brought most of us to this city in the first place.
Enjoy!
