Every girl (and maybe guy?) has that one thing they can do that always makes them feel good about themselves. Maybe it’s your favorite perfume, or your lucky underwear. Maybe it’s the glow in your cheeks after a run, or a certain song in your headphones while walking down the street.

Mine is simple- Jewelry. There’s nothing I like more than coming home from a night out, having been all dressed up, and changing into sweat pants or pajamas but leaving my jewelry on until I go to bed. I always take a quick glimpse in the mirror and usually think I look better than I did going out.

Part of this is probably because I’m comfortable. I would live in comfy pants twenty-four hours a day if I could. And sure, I could blame it on the end of the night, and likely a cocktail or two loosening up my judgment, but it’s not always late. I had a friend in college who used to laugh at me because we would roll out of bed and skip a shower to go grab brunch, but I wouldn’t go out without my earrings.

My girlfriends all have similar obsessions. One would never think of leaving the house without full make-up. Another carries an excess of fifteen lip glosses at all times. Another prides herself on mani-pedis on a regular basis, no matter what else she has to do.

I never thought guys noticed things like this, until a conversation with a male friend the other night. He overheard one of his buddies complimenting my scarf, and later brought up that guys love accessories. Actually, it’s more anything that they can imagine you wearing with nothing else on. Boots, thigh highs, hats, gloves, anything you could imagine disregarding removing in the heat of the moment.

So, the next time you think that guys don’t appreciate attention to detail, like matching your bag to your shoes, think again. He just appreciates it in an entirely different way. And it’s not always about him. I went to a party the other night in jeans and a sweater, but just knowing that I had my most revealing lingerie underneath gave me a mischievous smirk that I’m sure was apparent all night long.
