Okay, maybe I’m over simplifying…

So, I have a theory on why Americans have become so obsessed with celebrity gossip- they’re the only ones with enough time to do anything interesting! Seriously, since starting the new year and heading back to my job that pays my bills M-F, and pursuing what I actually want to be doing on nights and weekends, I barely have time to use up all of those free cell phone minutes.

And even if I did, what would we talk about?

“Hi, how was your day?”

“Oh, the usual. Went to work, concentrated for as long as I could before searching for an update on Britney’s latest date. Then wished I had time to go out on a boat tonight instead of doing my laundry and organizing tax receipts.”

“Yeah, me too. And since there were no paparazzi stalking me on my Starbucks run, I wore my usual Wednesday work outfit instead of my new Juicy sweat suit (although that would be SO much more comfortable!).”

Seriously, I’m having a rough time coming off of this break and facing “reality”. If only Canada were a big star, I could just pick up Us Weekly to see if he’s working equally hard, or hitting the hot spots with their “it girl” (does Alanis qualify?!). When you’re used to getting stories about people you’ve never met on an hourly basis, it can feel like forever waiting to talk to someone you actually know.

If I were a star I could find time to “reinvent” my hair color that I’ve been thinking about for months. But, at the same time, I would be plastered on every street corner if it didn’t work out, and that would freak me out. I hate when people post a picture I don’t like of us on their MySpace page.

I think the majority of my unease is that I want a new job. My current commitment was supposed to be part time, but has grown into all-encompassing. I’ve always worked one job to pay the bills and did things I loved on the side to make it bearable. I’ve been struggling for my entire life to combine the two. I am excited for an interview this Friday that would be a step in the right direction.
