Your Celebrity Match

If you haven’t yet discovered it, My Heritage is a great way to kill some time. If you get completely bored with MySpace stalking your exes or catching up on celebrity gossip, you can compare photos of yourself to a database full of celebrities, and the results may surprise you.
Warning, prepare yourself to disagree. Sure, it can be flattering when last year’s Christmas Card gets compared to Angelina Jolie, but unless you adjust the settings, you can even cross gender lines. My own personal matches ranged from Hayden Pannettiere (Heroes) and Jamie Lynn Spears to Fred Savage and Ewan McGregor.
So, after playing with the site on a friend’s computer the other night, we got into the more pressing discussion of who would play you if they made a movie of your life. Now, if you get away from physical attributes, this can be a fascinating way of glimpsing how others see you.
My leading ladies seemed to fall into two distinct categories as we cast and re-cast our lives. Two of the finalists were Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson. They embody a sort of free-spirited, hippie-child mentality that apparently other people see more of than I see myself. But hey, when one’s an “Angel” and the other can’t lose a guy in 10 days, who am I to argue.
Then another group of callbacks materialized, including Julia Stiles and Janeane Garofalo. By these less mainstream interpretations, I was completely flattered. I was cast with women identified by their intelligence and sharp wit. I guess I’m really an indie girl at heart.
I’ve always been fascinated by the difference between the way the world sees you and the way we see ourselves. This discussion was with a guy friend who has known me since college, and a girlfriend who I’ve known casually for about half as long, but they agreed on many of the same characteristics. Now if only I could find a way to re-write this week’s script.
