There is no place to examine the sins & virtues of human nature like a week in Sin City, Las Vegas. I actually didn’t realize that there was a virtue to go along with each of the seven deadly ones (never went to Catholic school), but I definitely saw both sides of the scale on this vacation.
I flew to Vegas for a wedding, the ultimate compromise of these two values. In a marriage, you get to have as much lust and indulgence as possible towards your spouse but total chastity towards everyone else on the planet. I guess whoever made the rules realized that we couldn’t follow this one completely, so they decided to give us better odds.
I spent most of the week hanging out with happy couples, leaving me to lust after a relationship. The bride and groom spent the entire night beaming at each other, and in complete acceptance of each other’s quirks. She even agreed to have their wedding coincide with March Madness so that more of his friends could make it.
There is no better inspiration for braving the awkward beginnings of dating than seeing the successful result. But, I went to school with most of his guy friends, so I was pretty confident I wasn’t going to find my reason to fight for catching the bouquet.
Most of them had a pretty good chastity plan in place, anyway. There were about ten guys staying in one suite, leaving little room to walk without stepping on someone’s hand, let alone bring a girl home. So, I settled in to one of my other favorite indulgences- the gluttony of an open bar.
