At times we all get frustrated. We think our expectations are too high and we start to consider settling for less than what we want. At times like these, I turn to a blog written by a dear, wise friend that keeps hope alive:
“I’ve put together a list of a few things that my husband does that let me know that I am special to him…. (Keep in mind that we have been together for almost eight years now so this is no longer courting.)
When a man loves a woman….
- He gives backrubs without expecting blowjobs.
- He makes dinner every once in awhile.
- He does dishes.
- He rubs my feet when I’ve had a long day.
- He goes to the grocery store with me & dances in the aisle to make me laugh.
- He brings me breakfast in bed.
- He text messages me throughout the day to let me know that he misses me.
- He isn’t embarrassed to say that he loves me out loud.
- He leaves me cute little notes.
- He willingly goes down & (get this) he LIKES it!
- He cuddles with me.
- He tells me that I’m beautiful when I have no make-up on.
- He puts the toilet seat down & makes sure the toilet paper goes over instead of under.
- He does his own laundry.
- He lets me have the last bite of chocolate cake.
- He opens doors for me.
- He dances with me & spins me around the living room.
- He shuts his phone off to spend quiet time with me.
- He holds my hand.
- He kisses me just because.
- He says “I love you” just because (not just because he’s saying goodbye).
- He’ll asks if I’d like something to drink if he’s coming from the kitchen.
- He’ll help me with the groceries without being asked.
- He actually cares about my feelings even though sometimes he doesn’t understand them.
- He respects my opinions & honors my decisions.”
So for today, I’m going to argue against the idea that there are no good men out there. As for the old standby, “All the good ones are taken,” I’ll counter that with a divorce rate over 50%, they won’t be taken forever! How’s that for a cynical silver lining.
