Miss Manners Head Explodes Due to Extreme Shock and Disapproval

miss-manners.jpgDear Miss Manners,

I have a few matters of etiquette that I would like your opinion on. Hypothetically speaking of course, if one were to end up going home with someone they didn’t know particularly well:

1. Are you required to immediately get out of bed the next day if they have to rush off to work and you don’t? Would it be considered in poor taste to accept an offer to stay and sleep in?

2. If one chose to accept this offer, and then happened to need to stumble to the bathroom, would it be acceptable to throw on the closest item of clothing in reach in order to head to the restroom, in case of interaction with any roommates?

3. If one were to encounter said roommates on travels to the restroom or while filling a glass of water in the kitchen, is one expected to make polite conversation, apologize for waking them due to roommate’s lack of keys the previous evening, or hang head sheepishly and mumble an incoherent response while scurrying quickly back to the safety of the vacated bedroom?

4. Upon preparing to leave the apartment, would tidying the room seem a nice gesture, or an invasion of privacy obviously indicating a desire to snoop through inhabitant’s belongings? Is making the bed expected, or at the very least considered a nice gesture?

5. Could one be forgiven for spraying just a touch of cologne found on the floor so that the smell would linger on the visitor as a reminder throughout the day?

6. If one is obviously dressed in the previous evening’s clothing, should one hold one’s head high with confidence and grace upon walking past the doorman and into a world of those going about their daily business? Can sunglasses be worn indoors as an exception in order to disguise the obvious lack of makeup remaining?

7. May one be excused from polite conversation with cab driver if it is clear that passenger is in no shape to hold an intelligent conversation, and clearly just wants to get home and revel in a state of exhaustion and likely hangover that follows such an excursion?

I would appreciate your thoughts and expertise in this matter, purely as a point of interest and curiosity.

Yours Truly,
“What Did I Do Last Night?”
