A Little Bit of Everything, All Rolled Into One…

There is definitely something to that whole Meredith Brooks song. I laughed at myself yesterday when I realized that two of my latest obsessions consist of the modern feminism music of Saving Jane, and the delightfully guilty pleasure of Footballer’s Wives.

This struggle to define ourselves as modern day women is all over pop culture:

“Good Girl Gone Bad” - Rihanna

“I’m not a girl, not yet a woman” - Britney Spears

“Sorry I’m not a virgin, sorry I’m not a slut” - Christina Aguilera

We had Betty and Veronica, Sandy & Rizzo, all four SATC girls, and so on and so on. And, as much as everyone likes to define themselves as, “I’m a Carrie” or “I’m a Charlotte”, the truth is that most of us can relate to a little bit in all of these characters. When we’ve been told we can be anything we want to be, why choose just one?
