Things I love about Holiday Party Season

1. Walking into Urban Outfitters to buy a pair of tights and walking out with a brand new party dress, completely justified by having three occasions to wear it.
2. Seeing your boss hammered at the company Christmas party because, although he can’t hold hid liquor, he can’t leave until it’s over.
3. Party food and drink that you would never eat or drink on a regular basis. Two of my recent favorites- Spinach and gorgonzola quiches and a friend’s family recipe called “Wassle” which consists of apple cider, rum, pineapple juice, and who knows what else.
Things I don’t love about Holiday Party Season
1. Finding a date. Casual acquaintances can’t be subjected to the introductions and inquiries of status, and going alone is too depressing. I’ve avoided this dilemma so far thanks to three adventurous girlfriends and a gorgeous gay man.
2. Dirty Christmas email invites. Is nothing sacred?! I mean I’m all for Elfing yourself, but no one needs to see a kid being groped on a Michael Jackson Santa’s lap.
3. Not having enough space in my apartment to throw one of my own. With the collection of characters I’ve met in this city, I’d love to throw them all in a fish bowl together and watch the water swirl. Maybe someday…

I have my office XMAS party tonight, and quite frankly, I am not looking forward to it.
I cant stand the shopping, or traffic this tiome of year.
But….I DO LOVE being with my family …and we get to see alot of each other around this time of year, so…THAT makes up for the other hellish events!

I hate having to spend my money on Christmas presents for 16 extended family members when all I want to do is blow all my cash on the prettiest New Years party dress in all the universe and tickets to the biggest party ever! Does that make me self-centered?!
