I’ll Stick to Trying to Connect Two

In an effort to distract myself from wanting to call Manning, I’ve been trying to focus on anything and everything else. I’m feeling a bit like Patty Loveless.

connect-four.jpgThere are a million dating books out there that advise you to date more than one guy at once so that you don’t get too attached to any one. Tonight I put that theory to the test and went out with someone I met at a Christmas party last year. I probably should have known when I was more excited at the thought of staying home to play with my brand new computer (Hello, Mac Book Pro!) that this was going to be a waste of my time.

We met for a drink, ran through the small talk basics of a first date, and then perused the bar’s selections of board games before settling on a lively game of Connect Four. I admit, I went in with a bit of a bad attitude, but it was confirmed when he quite obviously let me win one round.

In board games and relationships, I don’t want a pity win, I want to be challenged. I want an intellectual equal that understands that I’m tough enough to handle disappointment. And I especially don’t want to date a guy who thinks that I’m dumb enough to buy that he somehow overlooked lining up four colored checkers in a row.

If nothing else, it got me out of screaming at the television watching the State of the Union address, because even the parodies are depressing:

  2. Letting my date win at Connect Four? First off, that’s rookie. No girl really finds that sweet or chivalrous. Second off, it’s Connect Four. How do you pretend to lose without looking like a complete fool?

Sorry. There’s my rant on Connect Four and first dates.
