I think I’ve found a way to come to terms with the new batch of Sex and the City clones hitting the airwaves- nothing is ever going to live up to your first love.
Sure this one may have the same blue eyes (girlfriends), dark hair (relationship issues), and a great job (um, great jobs). On paper it may be an ideal replacement to fill the void of the one that got away, but it never stands a chance when held up to nostalgic comparison.
I decided to play the field. When the writers strike left us in a bit of a drought, I basically became the girl at the end of the bar at last call- I would watch almost anything new that they threw at me. I watched each episode of Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, and Dirty Sexy Money with the passion of a summer romance or relationship fling, throwing myself into the enjoyment of every little moment and dreading the inevitable ending. I gave those gems everyone kept saying I would love a chance and discovered Gossip Girl and 30 Rock, diving in headfirst and learning everything there was to know about them.
And then along came the dueling premieres of the new girls-struggling-to-make-it-in-New-York-over-cocktails-in-crazy-outfits-and-with-more-free-time-than-my-unemployed-friends genre. I panned Cashmere Mafia after episode one, but snuck back the following week for a secret late-night booty call. I reluctantly met up with Lipstick Jungle three days after our arranged date. And you know what? I realized that I could have a (fairly) good time.
Sure, nothing is ever going to replace your first love, whether it be a guy, a television series, or your favorite Mom-cooked meal. But that shouldn’t stop us from having a little fun and accepting the next rebound on its own shaky merits.

I tried the whole Cashmere Mafia thing too for lack of better TV. This whole writing strike thing has really put a huge damper on my already boring winter…coming home with nothing on TV is not the same as coming home and snuggling up to a good show on TV. To make matters worse, I don’t have cable. So the network shoes on Channels 4 and 5 were my only options.
It’s a bit of a dry spell now, if you will.

Ya know, this is exactly right. I am completely happy with Cashmere Mafia, still have yet to catch Lipstick Jungle) but, I have to accept, Carrie and the girls aren’t coming back SO DEAL WITH IT, and watch what ever is CLOSE.
Im pleased.

cashmere mafia is okay on the eyes and ears, but i keep SATC up on a pedestal- i actually wrote a blog about all of the shows, but then that tree fell on our car and took presidence! lol i’ll probably post it later on this week (but pretty much we agree on the same things!)
